This locally made ( Los Angeles) Mexican inspired green Bengkung belly bind is used on a mother during pregnancy to help with better posture and back support or as a postpartum recovery between day 4-40 to help return the abdominal area to it's pre pregnancy shape. This large sized bind is 16 feet in length and 9 feet in width. The inner panel is made of unbleached flannel with ties the same color as the outer bind. This wrap is sewn finished with a hemmed line and is hand washable or machine washable in a gentle cycle with cold water. Machine or line dry. Use of a Bengkung Belly Bind is Malaysian method, but this technique has been used throughout the world including Mexico where it is known as a" Faja".
The Bengkung Belly Bind will help with the following-
Repairing Diastasis Recti- which is the parallel bands of muscles that meet in the middle of the abdomen. Using this bind is helpful in bringing the bands of muscles back together in order for the Linea Alba ( connective tissue) to strengthen and support the muscles.
Pelvic Support- Because the body produces " Relaxin" during pregnancy, which like the name relaxes the physical body to become looser and more flexible in order to birth the baby. By using the bind to place pressure on the hips and pelvis, it will help firm and support this area that is still lose.
Lower Back Support- Because the abdominal muscles are directly related to the back muscles, the core muscles are in a weakened state, with more stress on the spine as it has supported the body for the last nine months. This helps reduce the strain and improves the posture at the same time.
After four birthing four sons, I personally found this helped me set up a really great habit of good posture while breast feeding. We often want to slump over when feeding, but with wearing this supportive bind it is more difficult and acts as a good reminder to place a pillow or raise your baby to the breast rather then leaning forward.
