Sacred Passages have been on my mind a lot lately as I work, plot and plan with my friends to turn our passion into a vocation. It seems such a natural fit that our web blog would go live right around the autumnal equinox. This time of the year is the balance point between the longest day and the longest night. It presents a wonderful opportunity to reflect on opposites, like day and night, and how they are really aspects of a whole: To ponder the idea of balance between this light and dark as well as our own part within the whole, our unity with each other and the earth.
Take time to connect with this energy of unity that autumn brings. Breathe in, center yourself and find balance through the rhythm of your breath; as air gives life and is a source of connection among all living beings. And remember that as autumn approaches, it is also a time to reflect on what has been brought to fruition in your life. Ask yourself: What are you reaping now based upon the past year’s actions?
Soon it will be time to look within, as earth’s energy is getting ready to shift and prepare for rest and regeneration. Recognize this coming shift and put thought into what you have harvested this year, give thanks and consider thoughtfully if there are any habits or actions that are preventing you from cultivating and transforming your life in the way you most desire.
Connect these thoughts to your breath-
- With your out breath, release what you no longer need and wish to let go of, surrender to the idea of change in the coming year.
- When you breathe in, visualize that which you want to grow and flourish in the coming months, this acts as inner preparation that will continue during nature’s period of rest.
As you focus on your breath this season, think of the tiny acorn with all of its potential that grows into a giant oak and know this small action of intentional breathing and reflection can manifest tremendous transformation while increasing your ability to harmonize with the unity and balance that autumn brings.
