re-honor their bodies as healing, to bring back together parts of themselves that may feel fractured or absent. The part that went through the transformative experience of birth is literally and figuratively ‘shattering’ us, breaking us open to bring through the new soul and the new part which is mother.
The ritual can also help "close" a new Mother energetically, as both pregnancy, and particularly the intense process of labor and birth, can be very vulnerable times for a woman, psychologically and psychically.
After receiving a ritual bath or Bajo de Hierbas, a warm herbal infusion, specifically chosen to stimulate circulation, energize the body, fight infection, and recover vital heat and moisture which is thought to reduce a "cold" state in a postpartum Mama. The essential oils released by the herbs affect recuperation, balance, and relaxation. Hot baths alone can positively influence cardiovascular, hormonal, immune, musculoskeletal and respiratory systems. The Mother is then wrapped up and laid down. Two partners sequentially "hug" her body together, from crown, all the way down to the toes, with a Rebozo, Faja, or a shawl . it’s purpose is to close the hip bones using various hand massage techniques, using infused oil around the pubic bones, belly and around the hips.
Closing of the Bones is a very intimate ritual performed in your home with the assistance of a trusted woman in your life who you would like to share this experience with you or it can be surrounded by a few intimate female friends if it is needed for extra support. If you don’t have an assistant I can bring an assistant with me. Plan on 2 hours of time between feeding your baby and to have a caretaker (Papa perhaps) present to attend to your baby while we are in ceremony.
